SCTM and KS have for many years cooperated on issues related to municipal development, local environmental challenges and sustainable development in Serbia. In this article you can find the final report for the project that ended in 2009.

Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM) and KS have for many years been cooperating on issues related to municipal development, local environmental challenges and sustainable development in Serbia. 2009 was the final year of the collaboration in this field, and a final report has been published.

The cooperation between KS and SCTM in the field of Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development was already initiated in 2003. The initiative was part of the process of democratization and decentralization in Serbia and was implemented through the Programme for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development in Serbian Towns and Municipalities 2004-2006.

Through the programme, sustainable development and democratic processes came to be seen as a guiding principle for local development. The programme also showed the need to enhance the cooperation between the local and the central Government.

The major milestone in the Program was the adoption of the Local Sustainable Development Strategy (LSDS) at the SCTM General Assembly (2005). The LSDS represents a joint strategic framework for Serbian municipalities, which aims at the integrated economic, social and environmental development.

The final report is attached to this article.
